Go to the OPTIONS menu > PROJECT PREFERENCES > CONSTRUCTION ELEMENTS and turn off the legacy intersection option.
The yellow triangle means legacy mode is on.

Archicad 17 will automatically create new Building Materials from all of your composites, complex profiles, favourites and default tool settings.
The reason you will have duplicates (Air Space for example) is because you will have used in in many of your composites but with different strengths or pen colours.
So for every unique set of properties it will create a new Building material.
The number after the BM is Archicad's code so the name is different for each BM.
It is somehow based on the properties of the BM (strength & colours).

Thank you so much. (^_^)
and question one is how to i know Intersection priority of Material ?

on V.16 have priority a bit but V.17 have to 999.
V.17 Have data for priority of Material ?
or where is can download for data priority material?

Thank you

You set the priority to what you think it should be.
There aren't any set values.
In 16 there was a priority from 1 to 16.
Now in 17 the priority goes from 1 to 999 so you have a lot more flexibility.
When you convert from 16 to 17 it will automatically set the new priority to an equivalent value on the new scale.

These new priorities work with the new "junctions" in 17 so that now even in 3D and section your composites (walls, slabs, etc.) will all trim their skins based on these priorities.
This is with legacy mode turned off.

If legacy mode is on (i.e. same as it was in 16) then you will find in the tool settings there is a "Junction Order" that you can use based on the old 1 to 16 scale.

Barry.
So what is the best way to avoid this translation nightmare? Go back and find every use of every composite and change to one single instance? Furthermore once you have this junk in the file - how do you simplify it back to a manageable list of materials or composites?

Yuck, what a mess!

We recommend going through the helpcenter and reading the migration guide you can find here.

This text helps explains what happens when going from AC16 to AC17, and how to make the process a little easier.

Thank you for the advice.

The Migration Guide for AC17 Building Materials .... #1311911, states,
"It is recommended that you spend the time to go through your attribute set manually,
to ensure you keep what you need and discard what you don’t."

Later the Guide says, "go through the tab pages of the attribute manager to delete the ones you will not need."
AC offers no built-in help or warnings on these tab pages.

SO, is this what needs to be done?:
1) Find my composites, open the Profile editor, select the fill and read off its name. Create list of these.
2) Follow the Guides' workflow tips (Search in a 3D window, review 3D filters, all layers on etc.)
3) After completing that step, go through the worksheets, independent details and other non model views
(for lack of a better term) and find fills, etc. Copy/paste to *.txt or *.csv for each case of attributes in use.
4) Compare this "in use" list to full list and create new list of "unused" attributes.
The "unused" list becomes the basis for the "Replace Attributes by File function".

Should I only concerned with cut fills vs the cover and drafting fills? The Guide seems to focus on cut fills a bit.
Is the migration tied to the Building Materials and anything in use to create the Building Materials, ie surfaces
and cut fills in particular? Is this the key to speeding through this process?

I appreciate your advice.
[EDIT] OK now I see the topic on "AC17 Building Materials", lots of answers there, but nothing quick about any of it. Sigh...
