19 runs slower and slower until it is unuseable

What could be wrong ? The program seems to run fine for a while but eventually it runs slower and slower until it is too slow to work with.

We have asked for a file regarding this issue and could not reproduce the slowness. Waiting on more info from the user!

I am happy to report that the slowness (CPU's jumping to 100% use) is not happening with that file any more.

I don't know exaclty what the fix was.

There was a bad object in the file ( a kitchen cabinet) that could not be deleted or unlocked. All of the labels I was using for doors and windows were from version 18. Libraries had all been migrated. I deleted all labels.
And from the Dell Technical support web site I used for free one time the
" iolo Technology, LLC" System Checkup which made some changes and repaired a disc.
Previous to that I tried doing many similar optimizations and repairs with other programs and with windows tools but nothing worked until I used iolo.

So, getting very high CPU usage spikes? Try iolo.

I don't think it was an ArchiCAD issue, however, it could haved had something to do with things I did to the ArchiCAD file.

Also, I have dissabled Background Updating, and have changed data safety to 20 min instead of each step.

I will trun on Background Updating later to see what happens. For now I can't fuss with anything because I need to get this project out the door and I don't want to risk any thing that might slow me down.

I have the identical problem. Upgraded to Yosemite, migrated a file to AC19, doubled my RAM. Starts out alright, not very fast though, by an hour and a half in, I drag an object and it takes AC about 4-6 seconds to complete the action.

Activity Monitor only shows AC at about 25% of CPU during an action.

Keep us posted on how yours behaves, Steve. I'll try different files and older versions...

I am not certain what causes the slow downs. Sometimes I am able to work many hours giving the computer a real workout and all seem fine. At other times, I will have to shut down and restart because the program is running too slow to function. ? When ever this happens, the computer is for some reason at very high CPU usage.

I was hoping to find some answer on this matter here, since I am having the exact same problem. Sometimes it is almost impossible to work on a file. It happens more when modelling in 3D but there are times where the slowness extends also to 2D work.

This was not happening before we updated to Mac OSX El Capitan. Even though we waited until the official Hotfix from Graphisoft where they said it was now fine to upgrade to El Capitan. We also got one new computer that came with El Capitan out of the box, so not much to do there !!

If anybody has any feedback on what is causing this and how to cure it would be great, since for now it has become very frustrating, especially a couple of days ago that we were in a work session with a client and it got so bad that even the client got frustrated.

I've been working mostly on new projects since my last post, and haven't experienced the problem. But I've also bought a newer computer--I was on a late 2009 iMac i5 16G, now on a late 2012 iMac i7 32G. But since I'm not working with the earlier files as much now it's hard to compare apples to apples...

It would be helpful if there we knew more details about exactly what is meant my background updating. Updating what exactly, and in what background ?

If if were truly in the background, why am I getting the spinning blue circle unable to use the program sometimes while I wait for the update to complete?

And what if any known impediments are there? Is all it takes for this not to work a library part from an older version or something that is not "background update-able" ?

Shutting off background updating does not seem to make any difference.

All it takes to make the program too slow to use is to turn on shadows and transparency in the 3D Settings. Also, if Trace Reference or 3D Cutaway is on it can also slow down so bad that the refresh 2D screen can take several minuets for the tool bars to display, one icon at a time.

Something is wrong. Perhaps a windows setting that controls how much space or memory is allocated for certain process. ?

Initially, everything works fine. Everything is very fast. It is after working in the project that it eventually works slower and slower until it is too slow to work with.

Does that sound like the same symptoms you are having?

I am working on older project files that probably have many things from different versions. Perhaps this is the problem. ?

I'm having the same problem. I bought a new machine in November & when I first started using Archicad it was blazingly fast. However, since the last update (4013) it has a serious performance issue that gets worse with time.

What I find is that on every move with a new tool selected Archicad refreshes the entire screen a number of times. This results in a .5 second lag on every move.

I do have duplicate objects in my libraries but have tested it without them loaded and with the standard & my custom Work Environment and have started with the packaged templates and my customized and the problem is still there minutes after I start working with it.

Any ideas?

Try to migrate libraries to make sure all the old library parts are 19 version.
I think this may have something to do with it also.

What ever it is, it is hard to track down. If I let it sit long enough it will preform as expected again. But not for very long.

The thing that concerns me about automatic background updating is how may other programs I have competing for the same thing.
