AC25 and External SSD

Has anyone else had odd issues with saving to an external drive while using AC25? I have done this numerous times over the years on projects that I will work on from work and home. If I explain even explain it well enough...

  • I finish up at the office and save, and the file reads 11-11-21 3:58 pm
  • I work on it again at home the same evening, and the file from my home PC shows the correct time I finished and saved it, 11-11-21 8:21 pm
  • Once I get to work the following day, the same exact file and the exact same drive shows 11-11-21 3:58 pm
  • I remotely connect back to my home PC and open AC25 to the recent projects screen, and it reads the correct time that it should, 11-11-21 8:21 pm

I usually am pretty good at backtracking issues to correct them, but this one has me completely confused. I had this issue on back to back days. The first time I just removed the drive and reconnected it, then it showed the correct time. However, this morning that didn't work. The only thing I can think of is a bad drive, or does Archicad 25 cache files to each PC that might cause this to happen? I do not use this method regularly for my files, but I have never had this issue in the previous version.

Thanks,

Not to ask the obvious... but do you always eject the drive before unplugging it?  Windows itself is doing the caching (unless you have a 3rd party disk driver installed doing encryption or something) ... so you can only guarantee that the cache is flushed by ejecting before unplugging.

I typically shut down the PC and then remove, but if I leave the PC, I do eject it. I learned the hard on not doing that year's ago LOL

Are you talking about the file date shown in the Archicad Start dialogue?

If so I believe that info is stored on that machine only.

So your office will think you last saved the file at 3.58 but your home machine will show it as 8.21, because that is when you saved it on each of those machines.

I am pretty sure Archicad only looks at the file path/name when opening the file, I don't think it checks the date and time.

If you 'Browse' in that start dialogue, you should see the correct date/time or if you look at the file via Windows Explorer you should see the correct modified time stamp.
