So my old P4 3.2ghz is faster with AC than a new Core2duo??

My Dell p4 3.2 is almost 3 years old and I am ready to crank up a new machine. However in reading this forum, it appears that AC10 will not take advantage of the new chip technologies. It is confusing: multi-threaded vs. multi-processor vs. multi-core....

Am I correct in thinking that a Core2Duo running at 2ghz will be slower (by 1/3) than my P4 at 3.2ghz? If so, I may simply upgrade from 1 to 2 gigs of ram and step up to a faster video card (still 8xAGP) and save lots of money. Does this make sense?

Thanks,
Pete

Thanks for the help guys.

Based on your info, I upgraded to a Dell Dimension 9200. The results I posted to the benchmark site as follows:

Old: Desktop P4 3.2Gb - 1Gb Ram (3.2Ghz Pentium 4 FSB 800; 1Gb DDR400 Ram; Nvidia GeForce FX5200 128Mb; 80Gb HD; XP-Pro)
Test 1: 55
Test 2: 30
Test 3: 189
Total: 274

New: Desktop Core2Duo 6600 - 2Gb Ram (2.4Ghz Core2Duo FSB 1066; 2Gb DDR2 667; Nvidia GeForce 7300LE 256Mb; 160Gb HD; XP-Pro)
Test 1: 39
Test 2: 17
Test 3: 106
Total: 162

This is with no other programs running, not even antivirus, so as I multi-task, the new system should show even more improvement over the old system (in theory).

Now if I can just get my AC skills and template up to snuff!!!

Regards and Happy New Year.
