multiply shortcut stops working.....?

Did a search and most of the results were Mac issues.........

I have lost my keyboard shortcut for multiply. I have a lot of custom keyboard shortcuts, have since 8.1. and they've almost always worked fine. I have tried a restart, reapplying work environment etc. Shows up in the list of shortcuts, shows up and works from contextual menu, but nothing with the key combo?? I also tried to delete and reapply the shortcut in the work environment, where it got very strange.......it wouldn't allow or "take" the input of ctrl + M.

It's only the one command, [so far as I know everything else is working fine.], multiply, .....I could reapply another combo with ctrl + _ but not ctrl + M. So how weird is this? I am confused! Any ideas what might be causing this?

Really a long shot, but;
Have you tried a different keyboard?

Man, don't I wish........unfortunatly it's global. Running a lptop with external keyboard & monitor so the lappy keyboard was the first thing I tried. No dice.

Maybe there is another program or an add-on you have installed/running that's reserving that keystroke combo?

I've tried running AC only, same results. No new addon either.

I have run a complete system scan for viruses etc., nothing............tried installing an AC native profile scheme for shortcuts...........ctrl+M still won't function, and I cannot install ctrl+M to work with anything...........alt+ctrl+M, alt+M, all will install but not ctrl+M......

Thinking something with the OS, interface or something running in the background I cannot identify.........any Windowz gurus out there?

Jeff, do you have the Bing toolbar installed? Apparently it captures this keyboard shortcut even when IE is closed. See this thread:

Wow..........interesting thread about the Bing toolbar. Although I'm not using it I suspect I am experiencing something along that line, just can't identify the program, or updated program.

I have been coming through the keyboard shortcuts of MS Office, IE8, iTunes, everything that can be usually running side by side when I'm working. I've given AC top priority in my task manager as well, [not that I expect that to have an effect.]

For now I've changed the shortcut to shift+M and will look into OS keyboard mapping, eventually, but the reality is that's above my pay grade. More than likely I'll just get used to the new shortcut unless I stumble upon the culprit...........ro someone here comes up with a good idea

Hey Jeff

Certainly sounds like some other program has taken over (similar to how some CS versions of Photoshop takes ove rthe esc key).

I presume you've tested both ctrl keys? And does ctrl+M work in other programs, Word for example?

Cheers,
Link.

Hey Link! keeping your feet dry I hope..............what can you do except drink beer and laugh

Turns out Vistap had it! I just didn't recognize it. I NEVER allow these toolbars to piggyback with updates or installs............knowingly that is! I went looking deeper after your comment about "assuming" I'd tried ctrl+m with other programs........[big assumption there mate ] Once I found it was indeed "global" I visited my program lists and found the Bing bar indeed installed. Uninstalled it and the world is as it was

Once again this forum, how ever infrequently you visit will save you again and again.

Thanks mates!
