It's always frustrating when you are choosing a font, to see a list of font names instead of a sample of those fonts. I always want to see what a font looks like. I don't really care what the name of the font is. In the future, all pieces of software will move in the direction of viewing a "sample" of a font rather than (or as well as) seeing the font name. Maybe the best way is have the font list represented in such a way that each font name also uses that font in it's list format. I know a lot of softwares already do this.
The best way to deal with this issue is to allow the user to take the text that they have written and then sample through many different fonts, using the user's own text. The very best way to choose a font is to see your own text in every single font available. This is especially useful when making presentations, but it is also useful throughout a project's documentation.
