PRISM_

Ever since I bought AC 8.1, I have noticed, in the 3D view,
that some of my objects and some of AC's objects loose their common edge lines when two objects are placed next to each other.
I always assumed it was something wrong with my machine.
I recently discovered that this problem has been known and reported
for at least a half a year.

The problem only occurs with the various PRISM commands.
and has NOT been fixed in AC 9.0 build 1965.
Among the various work-arounds is to convert all PRISM commands
to EXTRUDE commands. This is often unsatisfactory because the
masking and status values of EXTRUDE are limited compared to PRISM_.

Please repair the implementation of PRISM_ as it is
the real work horse of GDL.
Thank you,
Peter Devlin

Peter,

If you enable "show penetration lines" in the Special Menu, do the common edge lines show up?

They don't show correctly anyways. Except if you change the material.
In the attached example, mask value is 15 for both prism_ objects.
It seems that this is not solved on 9. Bug or feature, i would like to know.

Olivier,
Initially, I thought, well maybe GS was making a new feature,
but after trying to imagine how GS could think this would be a feature,
I have definitely decided it's a bug.
One other thing of note: I checked in the AC library for objects
that were probably made with PRISM_ and found that many objects
that in the past would have been naturally made with PRISM_ have been
made with the TUBE command which does not exhibit PRISM_ 's
new behavior.
Take a look at the code for "Molding.gsm" and notice the
complexity of the code apparently needed in order to use TUBE.
I suspect that GS has known about this problem with
PRISM_ for a long time.
Thank you,

Karl,
In Olivier's image, notice that the top and bottom joints are shown
but the forward vertical edge is missing.
In the experimenting I have done I have noticed that sometimes
the forward vertical edge is shown and the top and bottom joints
are missing other times not.
I haven't figured out the pattern yet, if there is one.
Thanks,
Peter Devlin
