Repair/Recover

I've not seen a more corrupt prone program than ArchiCAD, next to AutoCAD (but at least AutoCAD has repair/recover capability). Right now there are four of us (in an office of 8 ArchiCAD users) that are working with corrupt PLN/PLPs. It is very frustrating. Each of us is wasting at least two hours a day fist fighting ArchiCAD to get our work done.

So I am dreaming that Graphisoft can create a repair and/or recover command, similar to the AutoDesk one. Or better.

What do you think?

Alex,

We've been asking GS for a copy of their "mystery" utility that they use to repair the MANY corrupted files that we send to them to be repaired.

We've also had alot of trouble opening older .PLA files, having to send the files to GS to be extracted.

I admit I have only rarely had trouble with corrupted files* but when I have had a corrupt file, merging it into a new file has always fixed it. If you haven't already tried this I recommend giving it a shot. It doesn't take long if the project is still in the early phases. Of course merging doesn't bring in the sections or details (unless this has changed recently) so you have to be able to open the corrupt file to publish the modules.

Yeah, you guessed it Matthew. There's no problem copying the plan over to a new file. It's the sections, elevations, and details that make this a real pain in the neck. And I have quite a few of them.

Shoot David, if they already have a "mystery" utility designed to uncorrupt files then they shouldn't have any problem at all granting this wish. Hopefully you all will check "essential" and Graphisoft will get the message.

Alex,

Perhaps you already know this, but you can publish your sections and details as modules. You still have to merge them each individually but this helps to cut down on the effort required.

Sure, sure. But copying/pasting is even easier.

So I don't guess you've been successful with your request have you David?

That sure would be useful to have!

Granted AC & PM are very complex applications, but we're all still waiting for the level of quality that $4000 *should* get us.

Actually, if we could buy the software in US, with the current €/$ rate, it would cost us about 3.333 € !
