Repair/Recover

I've not seen a more corrupt prone program than ArchiCAD, next to AutoCAD (but at least AutoCAD has repair/recover capability). Right now there are four of us (in an office of 8 ArchiCAD users) that are working with corrupt PLN/PLPs. It is very frustrating. Each of us is wasting at least two hours a day fist fighting ArchiCAD to get our work done.

So I am dreaming that Graphisoft can create a repair and/or recover command, similar to the AutoDesk one. Or better.

What do you think?

Actually, if we could buy the software in US, with the current €/$ rate, it would cost us about 3.333 € !
Seems it will be even less

So I don't guess you've been successful with your request have you David?

That sure would be useful to have!
Eric,

Alas - emails were exchanged, forwarded, and replied to... but nothing yet.

I'm still hopeful... I'll keep you posted.

Here is a tip I learned from Tech Support the other day to recover a corrupt file. In fact, we have tried it on a Teamwork file that was giving us problems for more than a week (one team member crashed every time he would send & receive).

This method is called Forward Merging and simply merges a new & reset file into the "corrupt" file.

1. Create a New & Reset file in ArchiCAD
2. Delete all layers from this file and save it. We used the name crashmerge.pln
3. Open your "corrupt" file and select File->Merge and select the crashmerge.pln file to merge.
4. Save your file

That's it! This is much easier than merging all of your data into a new & reset file and it seems to work. One thing to note is that apparently (per tech support) you must save your Teamwork files out to solo PLNs before doing this procedure and then re-share it afterward.

I hope this helps you guys as much as it did us!

There must be something new in AC 8.* because we were never very successful at retaining our "QuickViews"/"Publisher Sets" and superfluous elements drawn in the "Section/Elevation" windows when we used the "Merge" command in AC7.0.3.

Are you saying that, in AC8.1, the "Merge" command will bring everything over - it sound to good to be true! Thanks, Eric.

Eric, please post this as a new topic so I can move it to Tips&Tricks.

David,
Remember that this is doing the opposite...it's merging a N&R file INTO the corrupt file and therefore nothing gets transferred, really (and nothing needs to). It's not necessary to merge anything like quickviews, view sets, etc. because you're still in the working file. I don't know what happens internally but it's merging prefs and file attributes.

Ah, I see! I read your post too quickly.

That's very interesting... I wonder why GS Tech Support didn't bother to offer us this very useful information?

Thanks again, Eric. I'll give you a "Kirksey" mug for the tip! Welcome back and congrats on your new addition!

Careful David..you might start a whole new tip contest! I hope you've got enough mugs!

Thanks! I don't want to jinx anything, but the little guy's been sleeping 5-7 hours per night for the last week which is great for a 1 month old kid.
