RevitShredder vs ArchiShredder ?

mthd

You may have seen this video on YT ?

https://youtu.be/ZhJoLaRbJN4

I personally think it’s biased and I am sure that there are Archicad users who can model up a house just as fast, if not faster than Revit.

Granted some things might be faster in one application than the other but I think, overall they would approximately work out about the same.

At the Chief Architect exhibitions of the past, they used to run competitions with other applications to see which one can model up a house the fastest.

I know Archicad would definitely be more accurate and can definitely model up a much more complicated structure faster.

I would like to see if anyone here would be interested in a competition to model up a house in Archicad ?

I am personally quite slow with Archicad and I am just a novice.

The competition could be called “ArchiShredder of the year” ? Lol.

If you know anyone who is very fast with Archicad, you could nominate them ?

It would be very good for the advertising of Archicad and it would be good if it was possible for Graphisoft to offer a prize to the fastest most accurate user to model up a house from the same concept plan ?

We will all benefit because we all get training on how to use Archicad properly with a fast workflow in just watching the competition on YT.

Is anyone interested or is it just a silly idea ?

Edit 16/10/2022: I found this video online from about a decade ago done by “Applecore Designs” a very fast accurate user of Archicad. Please see his example in detailing in this video and many others he has created. I don’t know if he is on this forum but I am sure he would be able to compete with that Revit user in the above video and leave him in the dust. Enjoy !

Great idea but have to be well organized and sure if you suggest prizes from Graphisoft sure everything should be monitored by learning division cuz as you said ( We all get training on how to use Archicad properly with a fast workflow ), until that happen I recommend you watch the Australian David Tomic he’s a fast Archicad user you may watch his videos on YT I’m sure you will enjoy it.

Hi, yes I have watched a couple of YT clips from Australian users and they are very good. The best user videos are the official training ones and I have seen many of those and they are excellent.

Yes, any competition would need to be organised officially. I am making a suggestion for Graphisoft to offer a prize of their choice. Like I said, it would be great advertising for Archicad and will help all us users to be better with a faster workflow.

I have my own particular way of drawing in Archicad but it would be good to see how others are getting their work done quickly and efficiently. Just Incase I am missing something ?

I have been using Archicad since V7 but many things have changed quite recently and I might still be using too many older methods to draw plans. It might be helpful to see what tips and tricks others use to speed things up a bit ?

All in good fun and to the benefit of all of us !

watching this video at 0.25 speed to see how his 'speed modelling' & at the 1:52 mark, can already cringe.

grids

  • that is not even remotely close to placing grids, whether doing it fast or even modelling them at normal speed.
  • try not modelling them individually & use the multiply tool THEN individually change the letters / numbers or...
  • GRID SYSTEM

slab

  • magic wand + offset it much faster than clicking corners individually.

doors / windows

  • at least try to learn offset placement of doors/windows.

reading the rest of the comments, especially about the mouse speed difference between the 2 videos (best at the slower playback speeds), made me think this video is quite scammy.

maybe later i'll go watch the rest of the video slowed down to see what else i can find.

but yeah, that is just cringe.

Well picked up GL !

When I and others see unfair comparisons like this on YT clip, it’s not a good look for Archicad and Graphisoft and all of us users. People are gullible.

That’s why I made the suggestion above. I hope other expert users like you have a close look at this when they have the time and to pick it to pieces.

The magic wand speeds up the creation of many element types as well as the many things you mentioned above.

It would be good to officially line up a custom house for modelling with users from some of the other popular CAD/ BIM applications. Archicad VS Revit VS Autocad VS Vectorworks VS Allplan and see how they all end up, in the time workflow and how accurate the final model is.

This is almost always invariably the case and is typically the situation and problem with these sort of "Archicad vs. Revit" kind of videos comparing the two software in a little modeling or speed-modeling exercise.

It's almost always that it's a Revit user, who either gets an Archicad user that doesn't really know how to use the software well or correctly (let alone fast and skillfully), or that they themselves (if they're doing the Archicad part as well), don't really know what the hell they're doing from a workflow standpoint on the Archicad side.

Which is why for the most part most of these videos are incredibly worthless.

10-15 years ago you'd have lots of people volunteering to do the Archicad part correctly, who happened to be expert users or who at least knew how to use the software correctly and skillfully.

Nowadays no one has either the time, the inclination, and most importantly, the motivation and desire.

Taking part in something like this implies you have some enthusiasm about doing it because you understand that it helps promote the software for non-users or Reviters to see how it works well under skillful hands.

That motivation is in dwindling supply among expert and long-term users these days and Graphisoft have no one to blame but themselves for that state of affairs (...if they even care).

So you end up with a lot of these kinds of half-baked poorly executed "competition" videos proliferating the media space these days that serve as nothing more than thinly veiled and poorly concealed Revit promotion videos, really.

I'd love to be the one to point out the 10 to 50 different ways they're doing the Archicad parts all wrong or inefficiently in these videos, but why should I?

Why should I be the one to help out Graphisoft curb this sort of misinformation about how their software should be best used, when they're busy treating my patronage of it, like I'm some sort of redheaded step-child with radioactive Ebola or something?

And that was how I felt TEN years ago.

mthd: Lol. Maybe you could offer to set the record straight BC ? After all they might just listen to you for once ? You might actually be one of the secret ArchiShredders amongst us ?

By “Shredder” I mean fast and accurate like Edie Van Halen was with his his guitar playing and solos.

Even if there was no competition, it would be great if some of the fastest and most accurate users here posted a video of how quickly they can model up a house like the one in the video above ?

Dear all,

Thanks for the discussion and fast-modeling challenge idea. It is definitely in our pool for upcoming contests. Nice video you've shared in the update, @mthd 😉

I find this speed modelling videos quite worthless, at least the ones i have seen, included the one shown in this thread.    So they finish this model 2 minutes faster,  then what? is Revit or Archicad better because of it?

How about a competition to MODIFY an existing model? then Revit users shall know pain (unless it involves modifying levels, in which case we probably lose)

agreed.

even the Applecore YT link in OP's edited post is a bit of a misleading video. it's premise is that Applecore can do a 3D detail in under a minute including a bit of cleanup & notations, but completely ignores the large amount of setup required:

  • complex profile drafting
  • cleanup objects set to their correct settings & saved as favourites
  • notes typed out & saved into favourites
