Wish - Description Field for each Layer

I wish when we selected a layer in the Layer Settings that there was a button on the right that said "Layer Description," then if we clicked on that we could write a paragraph describing the layer, it's uses, what it's not to be used for, etc..

Then when we "hovered" our mouse arrow over those layers a rollover message would come up that displayed that description information.

This would be a great function for teams, because they would all start to use their layers for the same things. It is so difficult to get people to use the same layers for the same things. When this doesn't happen models take much much longer to create because you constantly have to update layer combinations and views and publisher settings and on and on.

Have you tried settings up favourites for your office template? You can define the pens, layers, line-types (for overhead display etc) for commonly used model elements and tell staff to use those as a starting point if they want to deviate from a standard solution.

Another thing I've seen done is making a sort of 'live' legend of walls, roofs etc in a hotlinked module on a story below the actual model at a large enough distance to not interact with the model. This might screw with quantity take off though, but the idea is to pick up the proper settings with syringe.
