The question is probably why it is probably not a good idea ?
We always have to work from the best view according to the kind of modification.
By this way I do not think a section is the best view to use group because elements we see must be linked with other elements we can't see or select by this kind of view.
It true too into a plan view but with a plan view we see only element imported by the a same level (very often).
Grouping in 3D or in a plan view seems to be safer in my opinion.
