wish list - palette magnification

i am new to 8.1 and jumped, or leaped, from 5.0, so forgive me if these are old issues or i maybe am not doing something properly. I am on a dual G5 running 10.3.4.......... wishes:

1. I would like to be able to magnify palettes. much easier on my old eyes

2. i liked the cap lock feature for selecting, any comments

3. i thought the direction on dimension would be automatically switched by clicking on a vertical or horizontal string. this still does not work this way and i've wondered for years why not??

Oh, your eyes might not be good, but you CAN jump!
