Way to make a dimension that only shows closest distance with no defined angle?

Is there a way to show a dimension that doesn't stick to a specific angle and only calculates the closest distance between two points? Hypothetically if there is one, if one of the objects is moved, the angle of the dimension can automatically change as the object is moved because it is not a fixed angle and only calculates the distance.

I think the name of this dimension tool in Autocad is called "aligned dimension," if that helps.

No, the angle of the dimension will stay the same as you placed it.

The distance (length) will alter as it is associated to the node, but the angular position of the dimension will remain the same.
