I started drawing a renovation plan -- windows and doors were in the "existing" filter. They were still there in the "demolish" filter. I added new ones to the "new" filter. Then magically, they all disappeared. Any clues as to where they have gone? ...

Thanks Lee, I spent hours trying to nut this out. That's a very simple answer! So to create layers, far out, where do I begin. Would you have a screenshot of how you set up layers for three stages of existing / demolition / new?? ~A

Thanks everyone, I think I found the problem. I accidentally built the walls on Storey 0 then "saved current view" from there, so it was never going to work. What a difference it makes to build the walls on the correct Storey ha ha. ~Anita

Thanks Blair, I changed my height to current storey to match yours (it was at 1150), but it didn't make a difference. I think I'm just going to delete my project and start again! ~A
