Autodesk Upgrade Pricing

I just came across a post detailing Autodesk's Upgrade Pricing from next year. Upgrade price will essentially be 50% of new price.
Seems like they want to have everyone on subscription by making it very expensive not to:

Here is a blog where they give an example of how much it will cost:

http://aecconsultant.blogspot.com/2009/03/new-pricing-structure-coming-next-year.html
So let’s look at an example to illustrate this:

THIS YEAR
AutoCAD 2007 to AutoCAD 2010 $1795
AutoCAD 2008 to AutoCAD 2010 $1195
AutoCAD 2009 to AutoCAD 2010 $595

NEXT YEAR
AutoCAD 2008 to AutoCAD 2011 $1998
AutoCAD 2009 to AutoCAD 2011 $1998
AutoCAD 2010 to AutoCAD 2011 $1998

As you can see, this is a lot of different cost to you especially if you are only 1 or 2 versions behind.
Interesting.

Seems crazy to me.
Obviously Autodesk would prefer user to be on subscription but if they are not then basically this says "don't upgrade for a couple of versions if you don't need to because we will charge you the same anyway".
So unless there is some fantastic new feature then non-subscribers have no incentive to upgrade.
