Locked objects

So i'm working in this project, and when finished i sent it to my parter. when he opened it most of the objects were locked.. they can be unlocked with the visualization bar.. but why does that happen??

I would be guessing that you have MEP installed but your partner doesn't.

Well all of the objects ive placed are plumbing related. does this always happen when mep is involved?

Yes as when MEP is installed, MEP related objects are place under a different tool. A bit like windows tool vs normal objects, if that makes sense....
