No more VR scene & Object??

AC15 no longer supports VR Scene/VR Object. I really like Bimx, but cannot spend the extra money. Are there any alternatives? It was nice to give to a client to view on his own computer.

I just noticed this morning that there is no more VR scene! I guess we're supposed to pay up and buy BimX??

Why does it seem like other software programs offer much more for free with the purchase of their software than Graphisoft?? I have a coworker who recently came to our office after a long stint with Revit, and he is baffled at the lack of support and tools that come with ArchiCAD. I really thought the VR scene was an easy and decent tool to be able to send to a client to have them look at their building. Next will they get rid of camera's??

Sorry, had to vent this morning...

We often used VR object. When I informed my boss that was no longer available, he couldn't believe it.
Bimx is, of course a much better alternative, but we shouldn't have to pay to get something we used to have.

I agree completely. Taking away things you're used to having and making you pay for them is a stupid business decision IMO.

Not entirely Graphisoft's decision:

http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=30298

Apple support is pretty unprofessional in their documentation of the termination of QTVR development. This article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21662?viewlocale=en_US
shows a modified date of July 2011, but the content is ancient - noting that the QT VR dev tools were for PPC and not noting that they are no longer available. It even contains a link to a QT VR page that no longer exists. Nice.

In any case, the future ... well, actually, the present ... of VR panos and VR objects is HTML 5. Here's an Apple page illustrating an HTML5 VR ... obviously requires a newer browser capable of HTML5:
http://developer.apple.com/safaridemos/vr.php

Better than QT, in the sense that nobody, even on a handheld, has to download any software because it is all built into any current browser.

It just takes resources (and perhaps large firms demanding it from their reseller) for Graphisoft to make this happen.

Those of us with Artlantis (etc) are happy enough, but either Artlantis or BIMx carry hefty price tags for something that used to be included, as you say.

Cheers,
Karl

Karl,

Interesting information, thank you for the explanation. I didn't know it was that complex an issue!

As an incentive to upgrade to V16, GS could include Bimx.
