Printing Errors from PDF - ArchiCAD 20

Text is collapsing on itself when printing PDFs with Acrobat. (see attached). On screen it looks fine.

If printed with Preview on a Mac it's fine.

Same thing was happening with ArchiCAD 18.

So let me just clarify this: you are saving these PDFs from ARCHICAD 20, right?
And then when you try to print these PDF, the text is collapsed on itself in the printed output?

I believe this is a known issue due to the changes made to the PDF Engine within ARCHICAD 18 on Mac.

To solve the issue I would recommend trying out the three solutions posted onto our HelpCentre below.

Thomas:

When I have had this problem (typically when printing a rotated sheet), in Acrobat Reader > Print... > Advanced (Advanced Print Setup) > enable Print As Image.

Ok, This is not going to be nice.

I just publish pdfs in ArchiCAD. I will send these to contractors, client, colleagues etc. Do I know what printer or plotter they have?

If I can't send clients / contractors a "open I can see" drawing set. All of ArchiCads power is lost. Print as image is crap. Resolution is well beyond vector standards. Do I have to print a set and courier like the old days?

I can almost smell the aroma of the blueprinting days.

I'm not mad, just wondering what's going on.

Thanks for the comments. So far this is what I have found:

Plot/Print to PDF using Publisher in ArchiCAD 20. (On a Macbook Pro).

Print to Canon (from Mac) Acrobat Pro: collapsed text
Print to Fujixerox (from Mac) Acrobat Pro: collapsed text
Print to Sharp (from Mac) Acrobat Pro: everything ok
Print to Canon (from Mac) Preview: everything ok
Print to Fujixerox (from Mac) Preview: everything ok
Print to Fujixerox (from PC) Acrobat Reader: everything ok
Print to Canon (from PC) Acrobat Reader: everything ok

Hi, Do you have the latest update installed (3016)?
Do I understand it right that you are saving a PDF from the File/Print dialogue?
Your description is a bit hard to decipher, because when you are saving a PDF, the actual printer (Canon, Fujixerox, etc) does not play a part..I am attaching a screenshot and please specify your method with a screenshot as well.
I have tried to print a PDF from the File/print and also from the Publisher and both PDF-s worked fine...so looking forward to your clarification!

I have had this problem for a long time. Think it even went back to 18. I always print from Preview on the Mac, don't trust Acrobat. There are other things I like about viewing and navigating in Preview. I do send files out to clients, engineers, contractors, and I know there's a risk. I always ask if there are any problems. Pretty weird spot to be in. Never got negative feedback. Service bureaus had no trouble. I figured maybe it was a combination of Acrobat and my Epson printer.
I stumbled on this post cause I have another problem. The file type selector is greyed out in the publishing panel, and all I can get is PDF. I figure there's a toggle somewhere but can't figure it out. In publishing properties I have it set to save PDF, but even there the only alternative is BMX hyper-model?
Hi Katalin,

I'm using the publisher to create the PDFs. (see attached)
Running ArchiCAD 20: 3016 Full Intl MacBook Pro

ArchiCAD 19 is printing fine.

ArchiCAD 18 had the same problem until is changed some of the root settings as explained on your technical posts.

Hi Thomas, okay, so now I understand. You are publishing the PDF from AC and depending on what you print it to, the text collapses on the actual physical print.
I tried to reproduce this again from the publisher and the PDF-s look fine both in Acrobat and in Preview. AS long as the PDF-s are fine on screen, this seems that the problem is not on our end. The on screen results are fine for you in both Preview and Acrobat as well? TX, k
