I'm building a workstation for a client which will run AC9 and it needs to be as fast as possible when rendering, time IS money so an hour a day is allot of money at the end of the week. I've been thinking about the following configurations :
Dual Opteron 248
Tyan Tiger K8W
4GB ECC Reg DDR 400 (4x1GB)
Nvidia Geforce 6800GT 256MB AGP
200GB Sata
Or
Dual Xeon 3.2 1MB
Tyan thunder Thunder i7525
4GB ECC Reg DDR-II 400 (4x1Gb)
Nvidia Geforce 6800GT PCI-E
200GB Sata
The Opteron is cheaper most likely but i'm only interested in which one is the faster render machine.
If anyone can help me out with this then i'd really appreciate it.
Grtz

scorchio,
I have nothing against AMD, but would go with the Xeon config. If you had of asked me a couple of years ago I would have with out hesitation gone for the Opteron processor.
Xeon processor speeds are up there with them now so that's why I would choose it. The rest of the configuration looks really nice, I must say that I'm am some what envious of your customer
HTH,
Cheers.
