AC 11 crash upon opening.

Am using AC 11, latest build, on PC. Problem cropped up when tried to cut and paste hatch in S/E window from a steel beam object. (Which was placed in the drawing in plan view). When it was pasted, AC crashed. Was able to reopen, continued working fine, saved, and of course created a .bpn also. Overwrote older files.

Now, can't open. Goes through the whole process with libraries, etc., until the particular view that was being worked on shows up on the screen. Immediate crash. Can't open either the .bpn or the .pln. Have earlier saves, but if I go back to them, will lose probably 50 hours of work.

Anything I can do, other than work for free for a week or so? And slip the deadline.......

Try a forward-merge. But you will lose all your views and will have to set them up again.

Forward merge:
Open new from template - then merge the unopenable pln into the new empty file. First choose 'virtual building model' then do another merge of the same pln and choose 'layout books and masters' or whatever it's called.

Oh - and give the new file a different name, of course.

Hopefully it'll work. Setting up views won't take as long as the week's lost work.

This happend to me recently . Had two projects out of action for a couple of weeks. Graphisoft have recognized this as a bug and these are the instructions I got.
By the way are you using Cadimage tools.

Graphisoft have acknowledged a fault and will be issuing a new hotfix next week, in the meantime this is what I suggest:

1. repair your Archicad install from DVD and download and reapply hotfix 1040 from
http://www.graphisoft.com/support/archicad/downloads/ReleaseNotes/AC11-1033to1040-FixedBugsList.html

2. close all Archicad windows except the 2D plan window prior to saving the file*

3. you cannot paste data into a section window with hotfix 1086 installed.

PS - a problem occurs when you save Archicad with a section window active. I urge all clients to close ALL windows except 2D plan window when saving and closing their Archicad projects.

I think the bug goes deeper as well. When I merged the bad plan into the good one, I lost all details that were created from details. 15 of them.

I wonder if I bring AC back to the previous HOTFIX, and then merge it again, if they will indeed be merged back into good .pln.

Not a bug. When you merge, you retain only 3D model elements in non-floorplan windows such as sections and elevations but including including detail windows.

That may not be a bug, but it a definite shortcoming in GS. If forward merge is a common solution to a host of problems, it would be nice to be able to recover the .pln with all it's 2D elements besides.

Any information on when GS will be providing the fix for the latest fix?
