I once made a spiral stair out off morphs with a handrail (spiral) from the library.
I just watched an interesting video by Eric Bobrow the other day where he made a custom spiral staircase.

Using non-custom components will be a bit easier.
It really is as easy as getting the settings you want then placing a stair using one of the arc options in the pet palette.
A couple of clicks and I had this (no centre post - that is just a column).
