Is there a way to order my line types list?

Anonymous

I am setting up a template currently and i would like to be able to order my line types to how i want them.

E.g. being able to move around my list so i can put all dashed lines together ect.

Is this possible?

You should find that the lines are in groups.
If you look closely at the line type pop-out list you will see a faint grey dividing line between the groups.

Solid line is first, then standard lines and then symbolic lines.
Within those groups it is the attribute index number that organises the list.

Hi Barry

Is there a way to change the attribute index number for the line type?

There is but it can get very messy.

In the Attribute Manager "Append" every line from the left side to the right side in the order that you want them to be.
Don't worry about the solid line as you can't change that one anyway.
Remember they are in groups (solid line, standard lines, symbol lines) so try to copy them across in those groups - you will have to know which are standard and which are symbol as the attribute manager will not tell you.
Change the listing to list by 'Type' may help.

Now you can select all on the right and Overwrite 'By Index' from the right hand side to the left.

This should change all the index numbers on the left side to be the same as those on the right.
You may end up with some duplicates - they will have a "(2)" after their name.
If this happens you can delete the one with the wong index number if it is not being used - i.e. does not have a tick next to it.
If it does have a tick then go to the line settings dialogue and 'Delete & Replace' the bad line for the good line.

If you are not happy DO NOT save your file - quit without saving.
Maybe even work on a temporary copy of your template and then when you are really happy you can replace your template with this file.

I warn you that you can get in a real mess doing this.
Also your new file will no longer be compatible with any other file or template you have.
You will not be able to copy and paste from one file to another as the index numbers for the lines will be different and the line types will change from one file to the other.

you also need to be careful of library parts.
They are saved using particular lines (by index number) as the defaults.
If you change the index number of those lines then all the library parts will now have incorrect line types.

Again I warn you that you can get into a lot of trouble doing this.
