Staircase - Starting from a corner

Anonymous
Not applicable
Hi, I'm having a problem building a staircase.

On the left I built a 3D staircase very simply using individual floor slabs with 2D annotation over the top. Now I'm learning about how to use the proper 3D stairs but so far I can't figure out a way to get the 3D to match the 2D. I need my staircase to have the angled corner style, but I also need the staircase to START on the angled corner like it's shown on the left. Anytime I try to manipulate the 3D stair it snaps to a straight run. Is there a tickbox somewhere to specify 'start on the corner' or a work around that anybody knows of?

Also, how do I control the style of the stair run arrow, I want to take off the little circle at the end.

I'm running ArchiCAD 22.

Thanks!
Hannah

For the stair symbol, see this thread: EDIT STAIR LINE.

You should add a Signature to your Profile (click the Profile button near the top of this page) with your ArchiCAD version and operating system (see mine for an example) for more accurate help in this forum.

i have to say that i was suffering when i used the new stair tool for a log time, after that i spent two days to learn it , step per step, and i was able to create TONS of stairs,
the secret is : correct measurements of stairs + staircase, and correct drawing,

Hi Hannah,

Thank you for your question!

The reason why it is difficult to model this stair is because of the stair's rules set in its settings. We need to remove certain limitations, and "cheat" a little bit in order to draw this stair in ARCHICAD. Here I attached a GIF on how to create the stair. To make sure we have 2 steps at the winder, remember to set Fixed Number of Goings to 2 in the InfoBox

It's not perfect, as there is still a tiny gap at the beginning and the end, but I hope this helps!

Note that in 3D, due to the stair's shape, the structure doesn't look quite right. This is a limitation of ARCHICAD, as we cannot alter the stair's structure. I suggest using Filled structure, as can be seen in the screenshot below

Let me know if you have any further questions!

Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Minh

The post that Ling linked to is an old post by me back in version 21.
Version 22 improved it and there is no need for the small offset anymore.

Now this is where things get frustrating though.
bouhmidage has added a great video showing exactly what you need to do.
I have done this many times myself with no problems.
However I just tried it again in 23, expecting it to work, and it didn't quite.
I didn't get the winder at the end, but it was easy to fix.

Make sure your stair rules are set before you start.

Then place the stair as boughmidage has shown you.

I just had to reset the last 'winder' node so it had 2 winders.

I have done it fine many times before (but that would have been in 22).
So not sure if there is some other setting somewhere affecting it or if it is just a change in 23.
That is the frustrating part, trying to figure out why it works for some and not others.

These are all good posts, but I think they still do not do what the OP is trying to achieve. If I see it correctly, the top of the Stair has an additional Tread at a 45 degree angle, which is also the last Tread. I think that is the really hard part to achieve.

No that is not possible - at least not easily that I can see - not even by editing the boundary of the last tread.
The winders must be a rectangle - but can be divided into multiple treads.
So it must be a 90° or 180° winder if there are no additional treads.

If that extra red triangle tread is required, maybe do the top winder as a separate circular stair and then amend the boundary to the required angular shape.
