Apologies for embarrassing question ..... but I managed to turn on a taskbar that I can't seem to turn off.

What is it called? (So I can change the topic for others to easily search)
And how do I switch it off?

Looks like you docked the Drawing Manager at the top.

Wiindow > Palettes > Drawing Manager.

There should also be a horizontal line at the top of the palette that allows you to drag it out again so it 'undocks' and shows the cross button to allow you to close.
