empty fill

How the heck do I make an empty fill? I've tried to copy an empty fill and I get color that I have to change to white and I don't want white. I've looked in the tutorial (v 7 has something on it) No luck on empty fills. Please help! THIS is real frustrating!

Thanks,
Michele

The only way I have been able to do it is make the fill in AC7 and merge it into the version 8 file.

just a question to satisfy my curiosity -

how will your empty fill be different to the default empty fill?

also - i seem to have three 'empty' fills in my project at the moment;

• "Empty
• "Empty Fill"
• "cavity"

is this normal?

The fills are different in name only. I use fills of the same type with different names when I want them to look the same but not clean up to each other in plan and or section.

For example:

I use an empty fill called "!Section Fill" (the exclamation point is to put it at the top of the list) for all the frame construction (and trims) so that the elements all clean up in section to give me a nice clean empty outline. I use "Empty Fill" for the elements I like fixtures and cabinetry that I don't want to clean up to the building section.

The three empty fills you have are not the default (I assume that is what you mean by "normal"). By default in AC8 there is only one "Empty Fill".

ah. they must have been inherited from historical versions of the project then . . .

and thanks for the lesson in empty fills. hadn't thought of using them like that!

As said in the other thread:

To create an empty fill:

"Draw" a hotspot in ArchiCAD. Select it and copy it (to the clipboard with <ctrl>C)

Open the Fill type dialog box
- Create a new symbol fill
- Past in the hotspot.
- Set stroke X1 = 100 and Y2 = 100 (assuming mm)
- Set to Scale independent
- Edit the Bitmapped pattern
Done
