Windows 10 compatibility with AC16 and above

Anonymous

Microsoft rolling out Windows 10 next month and offer a "free" upgrade with Windows users of I think 7 and above. I do not know how long the free upgrade will last.

I have looked on this website before posting, to see if anyone had an opinion on Windows 10 yet. I did not find anything. I am always reluctant to upgrade Windows without knowing compatibility, so has anyone upgraded to the beta version yet, and if so, will it work with AC16 and above (our office is stuck with AC16 because we still have one computer on XP and we want all the computers to be on the same release).

thanks

From what I've been reading, the "free upgrade" is for a year after which it is supposed to go subscription. There is no official word on how or how much, though.

I'm in the same boat as you are -- wondering if it's worth the effort or if I should just stick with Win7.

Graphisoft created a page in the Help Center:

http://helpcenter.graphisoft.com/technotes/operating-systems/windows-10/

There is not much info about it at the moment but it will be worth checking out from time to time as more information becomes available.

Hmmm... so I'll stick with Win7 for the moment. In any case I'd prefer to do a clean install.

very helpful reading.
Now...the questions still stands.....WILL AC18 or AC19 operate on a Windows 10 machine?

Graphisoft usually makes sure that the last couple of versions run on the latest operating systems.
But of course we will have to wait till the end of July when it is released and then I am sure Graphisoft will update that article to contain which versions should run fine on Windows 10.

But I think there is no hurry to upgrade to Windows 10. First of all, it might have many bugs, might be worth waiting for Service Pack 1. Second, it will be free to upgrade for 1 year after release as I am hearing.

Waiting for SP1 is a sound suggestion! There's no need to jump to the latest and greatest.

Unless it's an AC version.

I've just set up a brand new workstation with windows 10 and am running both V18 and V17. The biggest problem I had was getting the Wibu key to work till I discovered that there was a new driver on WIBU's website to suit windows 10 then everything went sweet.

I have a small frustration that the info box has a small delay in scrolling across after I select a new type of element but this is something I have had before in windows 7 so I don't know if its W10 related. I'm looking forward to trying out V19 soon.

Windows 10 is an excellent OS - it is what windows 8 should have been (I stuck with W7 until now).

Your mileage may vary but so far I'm good with Windows 10 but I have my old workstation over in a corner of my office to fall back on just in case:)

Judging by the specifications of your computer you are obviously a gear freak! many years ago we had speed tests where users could test and compare their Archicad's performance against a common set of criteria. i had, for a brief period, the fastest computer that was tested. We should have something similar now. Not that it really matters - I suspect that your computer is far more powerful than you ever need but there was a slight glow of satisfaction in having the fastest.

Any suggestions out there?

Actually my profile was showing my 3 1/2 year old computer that I just retired:) I've updated the profile to my new system though its not so different except that I now have faster overclocked CPU and MUCH better, larger and faster SSD's and better quality smaller case. If you want good SSD's now the way to go is the samsung pro line. Yes I like good gear and the system is maybe more than is required for archicad but I work with large photographic files as well in my hobby. I went for a system from IC3D which is aligned to the Graphisoft distributor here in Australia who make systems designed to run Archicad and other CAD software.
