Types in Archicad using the favorites

We need to have types in Archicad :
Types are a way to easily and precisely handle a big number of identical occurences of a repetitive element.

If you define a window type for your project, with a defined size and a precise set of properties, you should be able to easy edit this type. It is not the case actually (yes you can select elements in 3D or in a schedule and modify them : it is not a satisfying answer to this wish, it is only a temporary and imperfect solution).

Favorites are not far away from this. A way of integrating types into Archicad would be to be able to "lock" parameters and properties in favorites. We could then be able to define types that are more or less flexible and efficiently propagate types modifications in a project.
No need for a new tool and it would give us flexibility. You can only "lock" what you want. So you could define a favorite for a window type with all it's properties entered but let the ability to change it's size.

It would be a game changer for our productivity.

Disagree, since you can do this since forever.
Right now you can add a property for type to any object and you can define a "Find and Select" rule with those parameters so that as long as you select all those objects in the 3D Window then you can group edit them.
This is less resource intensive than the overheads of having "linked types" and more flexible IMO.

I would like there to be an extra button on the Find & Select dialogue. One for "Add all relevant parameters" or a "Select all identical". At the moment, you sometimes end up having to add quite a few parameters and they change between object types with the invalid ones disappearing. You also cannot select by sub-object which is sometimes the easiest differentiator...

Totally agree and support this request. Perhaps it can be implemented in terms of existing AC concepts such as properties, but it would be nice to have a bit more automation around this. Doing things by hand when computers can do it for you is just silly.

Hi All,

Thank you very much for creating this poll, and for those of you who voted to voice their opinion.

I am happy to say we took notice, and I have added this into our WishList (please refer to it in the future as Wish #12561)
Hopefully our Product Management team will adopt this feature as a future project.

[Stay Active. Stay Awesome! ]
Thank you all once more, and I wish you a great day!

Kind regards,
Ghaleb

That's a nice surprise
This is would surly be an essential feature. The functionality of the favorites tool is ridiculously close (it should be renamed to type). So today we can create a favorite and assign it to an element and then edit or redefine the favorite and then select every relevant element and reassign the favorite. So the first step would be a way to force every element to reassign its currently set favorite.

Of course the goal should be to be able to set which parameters define the type and which can vary across type. Perhaps also be able to create subtypes that inherits set parameters from its parents.

Just have a "link settings to favourite" button in the object settings dialogue?
It would basically mimic the behaviour of "instances" in other software, unticking it would make it unique again.

The UI could have a selection popup where you could relink to a new Favourite setting (~Type).

Right now the workaround could be to save a window as a new element into the embedded library to standardize certain parameters, but user-made properties are not stored there. So either you are stuck creating custom GDL parameters and hide those from regular users, but then all the scheduling work is back to you, or you can try fiddling with the find & select window, but that is rather error prone in my opinion.
