AC 17 editing mesh behaviour

Anyone else miss the behaviour we used to have in AC16 when editing nodes of a mesh?

I would really like AC17 to revert back to the way AC16 did it ie. it remembered the last tool you selected from the pet palette.

If I have a whole bunch of levels to edit manually the way AC17 behaves means I have to select the edit elevate mesh point tool every time, grrrrr

AC versions 3.41 to 25 (UKI Full 5005).
Using AC25 5005 UKI FULL
Mac OSX 10.15.7 (19G2021) Mac Pro-2013 32gbRam AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB graphics

I believe this is a bug and not a "new feature".
