I want to be able to select what I see in the view based on the categories.
This would eliminate the need for multiple Layers for one type of the objects.
For Example Hide all Objects that are on "this layer" and have the ID "Area A".
Example 2. Hide all objects regardless of what layer they are on, but leave the ones that are on "Layer 2"
for example.

Agree on principle but I don't like the way Revit implemented it.

For "Defined Views" add an optional "Filter Setting" based on "Find & Select" would be more the AC way. Power users will love it, new users can ignore it and it will be selectable on all views.
  • Filter by layer
    Filter by Renovation Status
Filter by different "Find & Selects"
BTW forgetting to vote on your post?

Yeap! I'm back to vote.
I love find and select! If I could attach multiple F&S filters to one view it would be awesome. There should also action associated with the filter:
Hide
Show
Override graphics (e.g. show all Fire rated walls Red)
