Modifying windows and doors

Is it not possible to select a window that has already been carefully created and be able to change the type of window without having to start all over again?

I want to be able to modify an opening for a a different type door and window, without needing to rebuild it,   shutters, reveal, casing materials etc.

Yes exactly.

That is the 'syringe' to inject parameter values (CTRL+ALT).

The eyedropper (pipette) to copy parameter values (ALT) is not available here.

You must copy settings from the object in plan or elevation/3D.

I am just trying to ensure the correct terminology is used so all those other reading understand what is being said.
