Steel beam. Reference Axis

I would like to be able to modify Reference Axis in steel beams, as it is possible with concrete beams:

@runxel and @Barry Kelly have already answered me regarding this topic here:

Thanks, both of you

I would like to avoid duplication of profiles.

A poll has been added.

I am voting important rather than essential as the origin can be moved in the complex profile.
Although this will upset anything else using that profile - hence the need to duplicate the profile with a different origin.

I am not sure if there is a technical reason that the complex profile origin has to be used rather than the user being able to define the axis position as with a standard beam (column)

Thanks Barry,

I’ve also voted important.

I’m not expert in ArchiCAD, so I don’t really see the consequences of duplicating profiles. For me, an IPE300 is unique. I’ve just started last weekend doing some tests with analytical IFC (experimental) and my structural software, but my structural software doesn’t recognise profiles, so I don’t know if this could be a problem with other software, or with SAF.

This is not related to this wish, but, where could I post ”strange things” I’ve seen doing this test. Can I do it here, or do I need to do it through my local distributor?

If it is just a question you are throwing out there then post in these forums.
A question like that may be best in the 'Data Exchange and Information Sharing' section.

Otherwise yes, ask the question to your local support people.
Hopefully they will be helpful and if need be they can pass the info onto GS HQ for clarification or to recommend a future enhancement.
