profiler path tool

I would like to see (for lack of a better name) a profiler path tool. How I would imagine it being used is that you could define a path using something like a polyline. Each node could be assigned an elevation, such that when you use profiler one could chose this path to create elements that have the defined profile shape, but which also have the ability to change in elevation.

Just to reiterate Mike's wish more than a year later.

I'd be over the moon If Graphisoft can really overhaul and introduce the profiler as part of standard tools.

I'm not a great fan of having to everytime save and resave profiles as separate gdl objects whenever you need to adjust the path or profile.
There's not a lot of incentive for Graphisoft to do so since CADImage makes one already.

Plus there's SmartParts' EasyTrim and Encina's Objektive that each has its own profiling system.

Thanks. Have checked out CADImages tool and may be considering it.

Have some thoughts on why Graphisoft's should incorporate it though:
1) If it is viewed as an essential tool, then they should not rely on a 3rd party to develop and support it separately. What happens when there's an upgrade. Does graphisoft really want its customers to have to re-register all their add on everytime there's an upgrade.
2) If their competition has this or similar tools, then they should seriously consider incorporating it.
3) Costs - What are our upgrade fees paying for.
4) When we switched to ArchiCad in 1996, one of the sales pitches was that it's a complete package designed specifically for architects and did not really need add-ons like other general cad packages. One can understand the value of adds on which cater for specialist items, but in my view windows, doors, stairs and profiles are not really specialist items.

The different is that we will be able to create our own object that utilize the Addon's data.

There is a GDL object I wrote some years ago. I used simple GDL tube command and editable hotspots. The idea was to make simple free GDL library of GDL main 3D primitves, that possible to edit interactively. I though is good to make more user-friendly interface, but leave that just on pre-Alfa stage. I used same parameters as in GDL manual description of tube command (mask, node, path etc. - please see GDL manual).

It works (maybe not so fast sometimes - I'm not advanced progammer). I used it in some projects. With that library part it's possible to make any profile and change it's path or profile at any time. If somebody find it useful please leave you feedback on this forum, or e-mail me: alexeypodolsky@yahoo.com
I would be glad to hear any comments about that and maybe to cooperate with somebody just to finish that object for more friendly using.
