Auf MacOS müssen wir uns für die 64Bit noch ein wenig gedulden, da Apple hier die 64Bit-Unterstützung auf eine andere Entwicklungsumgebung gelegt hat.
10.6 wird natürlich unterstützt, aber vorerst ohne 64Bit.

Ich finde das ziemlich ärgerlich: AC13 läuft nicht mehr auf dem guten alten ppc, die 64 Bit bei einem neuen MacTel werden aber offenbar nicht unterstützt. 😮

There have been lots of questions in this thread about when 64-bit support for the Mac version of ArchiCAD will be available and why it is lagging behind compared to the Windows version.

ArchiCAD is a “Carbon” application – as the majority of the Macintosh applications with 8+ years history. We already started the work of making ArchiCAD 64-bit compliant in “Carbon” when Apple had a sudden decision in 2007 to drop the 64 support in “Carbon” and provide it just in their “Cocoa” framework.

As we consider 64-bit a strategic feature we started to rewrite the Mac specific parts of ArchiCAD from scratch for “Cocoa” to provide this functionality to our Macintosh users at the earliest possible timeframe. We are working on it with significant resources, but it is an extremely huge development effort that spans over multiple versions.

The first result will come in the next major release (ArchiCAD 14) where the BIM Server that is designed to host and serve numerous large projects will be 64-bit compliant on the Mac as well. Fortunately according to our best knowledge the vast majority of our Mac users do not stretch the current 4 Gb memory limit yet.

I would like to emphasize that GRAPHISOFT has always been in the forefront implementing the latest Apple technologies (e.g. most recently the Mac-Intel transition). We always do what it takes to serve our Mac users equally well and our 100% commitment to the Mac is stronger than ever.

Da bin ich aber beruhigt: schon in AC14 wird der BIM-Server 64 Bit unterstützen, vielleicht bei AC15 oder 16 dann auch noch AC selber.... Nur ist bis dann vermutlich mein jetzt benötigter neuer Mac wieder so veraltet, dass ich wieder neue Hardware kaufen kann. :dozey:

32 bit operating systems have limited memory addressing capability which makes them inherently problematic for the BIM Server. The 32 bit version of the BIM Server is useful when testing or demoing on single machine setups or when a few users will be accessing small projects. Wiederspricht sich GS da selbst? :crazy:

Vielleicht muss man mal zwischen 64 Bit unter Windows und 64 Bit unter OS X unterscheiden. MS bietet zwei unterschiedliche BS an, eine Variante für 32 und eine für 64 Bit. Apple bietet nur eine an und hat, wie oben bereits in Englisch dargelegt, mirnixdirnix eine Programmierschnittstelle gestrichen. Dies hat viele Softwarehersteller kalt erwischt (z.B. auch Adobe), hat aber den enormen Vorteil, dass Apple, mal wieder, alte Zöpfe abgeschnitten hat. So richtig 64 Bit ist auch erst ab OS X 10.6 möglich. Allerdings muss man sich die Frage stellen, wer denn 4GB pro Anwendung benötigt? Keine Frage, große BIMs benötigen viel Speicher, aber mir ist noch kein Modell untergekommen, das mehr als max. 2GB benötigt hätte.

Ergo: 64 Bit ist nicht zuletzt Marketing-Gedöns. NOCH wird es nicht benötig (m.E.) aber natürlich ist es nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis die Modelle tatsächlich an der 4GB-Marke kratzen.

Nein, du kannst auf einem 64-Bit Betriebssystem eine 32-Bit Applikation laufen lassen. Die läuft nicht nativ in 64-Bit aber kann dann mehr Arbeitsspeicher benutzen

Dem muss ich (natürlich) widersprechen. Wir haben bereits Kunden mit Projketen, die nur richtig unter 64-Bit (noch ArchiCAD 12) funktionieren. Es ist ein Schritt in die Zukunft, denn die Entwicklung geht weiter (man denke nur an Multiprozessor)
