The ArchiCAD 8/8.1 object "people bitmap" expects determined names of bitmaps.
It´s not so easy to change this object without knowledge about GDL.
You can find another solution in this ArchiTIPP:
Alpha-Kanal - Texturen mit Transparenz erstellen

In Artlantis it is very easy to place people in your scene with "billboards".
Have a look at this ArchiTIPP:
Artlantis 4.5 - die Billboards

I only have art*lantis 4.0 and when I try to place a texture with alpha channel on an object I get an error that cant recognise the file.Art*landis cant recognise my tiff, bmp etc. files that have alpha channel inside, it only recognise the .tga files (with alpha channel), but the alpha channel effect doesnt work at all. (I check the alpha channel setting in the rendering window)
.please help me........ 😞

And what´s about ArchiCAD (my tip above)?
You also can use Alpha-Channel in ArchiCAD.
And there is an object in the library called "Picture" (in Accessoires).
You can put any picture on this object, it must be in your project library.

hi,
if you work with artlantis 4.0 you need first of all something to place the picture on it.
I draw walls in archicad (with a new material on the surfaces, for example named "textures", its not important wich color...)
then you go to the 3dwindow in archicad & save the artlantis file (take the db/opt format for artlantis 4.0!)
in artlantis you open the library and drag the material "invisible" (in the folder "decoration") on the walls created for the textures.
the effect of this action: you don't see them.
you can turn off the transparency in the option menu and regenerate the view.
now you are ready to place the people.
- use only files without alphachannel!
- use only files in the rgb mode!
now you klick on the wall in the previw window and -back in the material dialog- you have to klick the texture button.
- inside the texture dialog klick the new texture button and choose the bitmap you want to place.
- after 'ok' it should be visible on the suface of the wall, move and place it with the mouse and pressing the strg key while moving.
- the background of the picture is still visible, to change this you can make a x in the checkboxes "mask". choose the colour to be masked.
-
questions? ask!

Thanks for the instructions, I get it to work but I cant make the material completly transparent! I move the opacity bar at the right and I put white color, but the material it remains a little visible. Also at the rendering something it seems that is there and reflect the shadows. I didnt find any way to make it completly transparent. 😞

hello 'bouzouksis'
please check, if you have put the material "invisible". it is placed in the shader library in the folder "decoration".
this material does not have any possibility to change the color. perhaps you have used the material "transparent", and with this material you wouldn't get your wall total invisible.
