Hi All,
AI is the everywhere nowadays, integrated in software & as a standalone platform. I have attended many a webinar explaining the basic benefits, however what about reducing time spent on tiresome BIM tasks etc? Has anyone got ideas on how you have or can utilise AI from a BIM management perspective & not for just architectural based tasks.
If possible, only utilising free or low cost AI or dedicated software that works with IFC / PLN / RVT (Co-pilot, Chat GPT or other)
I am talking things like:
- Model Auditing
- Quality assurance checks
- Document error flagging
- Drawing checks
- Generating project details on document templates from screenshot of details - For example BEP, responsibility matrix, EIR's etc
- IFC checking
- Software troubleshooting (crashed or slow models etc)
- ISO19650 compliance
- 5D BIM
- Other??
Obviously, I don't want to replace myself with AI 😂, I will do the specialist parts, but I would like to cut the time spent doing repetitive or time sapping tasks, if I can automate things to the point it just needs a final check over...

Hi LFBIMMAN,
Great question. I’ve been looking at the same thing from a BIM management angle and put together a short guide covering most of your list. It’s attached as a PDF if it’s useful.
It’s AI-assisted: drafted with Claude, then reviewed and edited by me. Sources are linked throughout.
When I first looked at this, I approached it as a process to support the BIM Manager role, which in practice includes a lot of BIM coordination work. So the guide focuses on how we can use AI in that day-to-day work rather than for design tasks.
For context, I’m a BIM Manager with a residential volume builder in Australia. I mention it because local requirements and workflows shape how useful some of this is, so your mileage may vary depending on where and what you build.
