when saving out of the 3D window as a 3ds file is the saved file WYSIWYG....by that I mean will I only be saving the active layers?? It is important that I am able to forward a file that the recipient sees precisely what I want them to see.

thanks in advance

my 3ds file. Mostly good....sun....not sure what angle. no shadows, mirror glass that reads clear, and an odd condition where auto headlights of cars parked in garage at the far left are visiable thru the translucent glazed garage doors

There's no shadows in your scene since Archicad's OpenGL view doesn't have shadow calculation. Transparency in this view mode is established by the transparency of the material set in the Internal engine material mode.

To asses material qualities, you'll need to make a rendering using the LightWorks Rendering Engine.

Dwight thanks for the info. Here is roughly the same view rendered in Lightworks.

Well, you've got plenty of work massaging your materials.

How do you feel about it now?

it is not clear what you are asking? Its not so much feel as curiosity about what one sees when.

The first image posted was from someone who had imported my 3ds model file viewed it and generated a jpg which they then forwarded to me.
The second image was a lightworks rendering of roughly the same view from my 3d Window as the view from the 3ds model...same materials layers blablabla
And with this post i'm attaching the good old ArchiCAD cartoon from the 3D window.

In my case the 3ds model will be used in a virtual reality simulation. The VR folks indicated theywill add sun/shadows on their end.

In a more perfect world...like having manufacturers provide accurate objects it would be nice to have materials that are precise as well...not massaged. It is disappointing to me to have this model and NO ies file driven light fixtures to light it with. WYSIWYMassage.

Cheers Cary
