DWG import enhancements in 12 creates 3D in plan?

Today I Xrefed a DWG file, expecting only 2D content to show as usual. I noticed some extra oddities in the 3D window, some meshes floating around at unexpected locations. It appears that despite that I have not Opened this DWG file as an object, some 3D content does come though.

I found that in the translator I used, some Custom Functions > Open Extras were checked, namely
Mesh > To Floor Plan: Convert Polygon Mesh to Archicad Mesh
and
3d Face > To Floor Plan: Convert 3D Face to Archicad Mesh

I was unaware that this function actually created 3D meshes. At the moment I have no time to experiment. I don't even know if it's really new in 12?

Is there anyone who knows more or can point me to any documentation of this?
