MacOS 10.4 Tiger Spotlight Plugin GS Metadata Importer

Let's not be too quick to say GS never does anything for the Mac people. I just stumbled on this new spotlight plugin from Graphisoft. And it's free!

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/spotlight/graphisoftmetadataimporter.html

From the site:

By using this plugin you’ll experience the breakthrough new desktop search technology with ArchiCAD: You can find
- any ArchiCAD project on your machine containing a layer or a layer combination
- any information from ArchiCAD Project Info and PlotMaker Layout Book Info
- any workgroup and connected member in TeamWork projects
- any navigator item in PlotMaker layout books

You are even able to search those ArchiCAD and PlotMaker project files, that were created on Windows platform. Project files from different language versions are also supported.

I installed the GS Spotlight plug-in but I can't tell if it is installed or if it does anything. Typing pln also finds pdf docs and bpns. I just problably don't know how to use spotlight that well .....

Any useful tips would be appreciated!

make an obscure layer name in one of your files, save it and then use spotlight to search for it . . . if it finds it, it's working!

if not, force spotlight to reindex the whole drive: go to your spotlight preferences (system prefs) change the tab to 'privacy' and hide all of your drives. click ok and close sys prefs. wait a wee while and then reopen and take them off of private. spotlight will reindex your entire drives - this time using the gsmdimporter . . .

HTH and makes sense . . .

It worked! That's really cool! I can't believe how quickly it found the pln file that contained a wierd layer name. It was instantaneous!

have you also found the spotlight window (ALT + CMD + SPACE) where you can see a lot more info about the files found . . . ?

Yes, I see that as well. Many files can show a preview. It would be nice if GS would implement this. I like the crisp modern look of the spotlight window. I hope that the Finder will transform into this in 10.5 and get away from the brushed metal look!

I am also finding Archicad to be a little more snappy. Hopefully AC 10 will take advantage of the latest technologies in OSX. It will be much faster then.
