I know many people here use dual monitor setups and I would like to recommend to those people to check out Ultramon. As a disclaimer, I have nothing to do with the company other than I'm a satisfied customer.
What it does is adds a task bar to the second monitor and windows that are displayed have their buttons on the appropriate taskbar. There's also other perks and exploitable quirks I use as well but I'm not going to list.
Suffice it to say, I now personally classify this software as ESSENTIAL and very useful. A must have for dual monitors.
Here's a screenshot of my desktop and you can see what I'm talking about. I'd like to point out for clarification that first off, I place my taskbar at the top of the screen. Second, my laptop monitor is 1366x768 and my external is 1920x1200, and the external is set to primary.
I suppose I should point that XP users get certain functions that make life much easier like resorting the taskbar (and that's just invaluable to those that get sick of hunting down a button). Also, note how BIG my taskbar is now, spanning two monitors instead of one.
