Every section has a centre node.
That node allows you to break the section to stagger it and it can't be dragged to the side.
However once you break (stagger) a section you will see more nodes - one at the break and a new "centre" node on each side.
It is this "break" node that you can drag to the side to undo the break.

I tried this and I couldn't get it to work... trying all sorts of combinations... tool activated, arrow activated... but still no go. It just kept creating new break nodes.

The Reference Guide finally gave me some kind of a clue:
To eliminate a break in a staggered Section line, select the Section line, then pull the break line (perpendicular to the Section line) out of the section range.
The clue being "...the break line (perpendicular to the Section line)". It didn't work when the break node was in-line with the section line and I tried dragging it past the end of the section marker.
However, drag the break node perpendicular to the section line, visibly creating a staggered section (so the break node is not in-line with the section line), THEN drag the break line or node past the end of the marker. Voila!
