Architectural Association Visiting School KOBE, JAPAN June 21, 2023 — July 2, 2023

Join the AA KOBE VISITING SCHOOL for an unforgettable 12-day journey that explores the relationship between traditional Japanese Carpentry and Advanced Digital tools. 

 

Learn generations worth of woodworking techniques and the fusion of these techniques with advanced digital tools directly from one of the most revered professionals in the field. The visiting school brings in experts from various disciplines, to exhibit the design and construction of a Japanese Pagoda, exploring the reciprocal relationship between old and new tools and techniques. Participants will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to work together with Master carpenter, Akinori Abo. 

 

The school will hold many different talks and workshops and multiple site visits to key Japanese locales and sites to learn about the tradition of Japanese carpentry. We will work in the world-renowned Takenaka Carpentry and Tools Museum, where the final product will be exhibited in the museum’s main hall! 

 

Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity! It’s open to architects and designers of different backgrounds and ages – priority will be given to those with previous computational experience.
