Dear community,
This month’s tip comes from a question raised in German-language forum. @Rabea asked how to make text frames automatically fit the length of a piece of text, without manually adjusting the box each time. @Xandros and @kleiner Nick, shared simple yet effective solutions that are already available in Archicad. We explain the benefits of and how to execute both tips below.
Instead of manually drawing a frame for your text, simply double-click where you want the text to be placed. This creates a text box with a flexible width, meaning the frame will automatically adjust to fit the length of the text you enter. This is ideal for annotations or quick labels where you don’t need to worry about the box size, as it’ll adjust itself.
If you’ve already placed the text with a fixed-width frame, you can quickly turn it into a flexible-width frame by selecting it, going to Text Selection Settings (Ctrl+T on Windows or Cmd+T on macOS) and turning off Wrap Text:
This setting avoids creating text boxes that are too big or overlapping with other elements — and you can achieve a neat result without having to replace already placed instances.
You can apply the same wrap setting to multiple text frames at once. Select all the text elements, open Text Selection Settings, and toggle Wrap Text on. If some text is already wrapped, select all the text instances, toggle Wrap Text off, then turn it back on. This will reset the setting uniformly across all selected items.
Both solutions are quick and simple but can make a big difference in projects with extensive documentation.
Thanks to @Xandros and @kleiner Nick for sharing these tips on our German-language foruma new audience through the International blog German-language forum, now reaching a new audience through the International blog.
If you’ve got your own trick or tip, don’t hesitate to share it on the Community, it could be featured in our series next month!
Cheers ✨
