3D Hatching

Hello,

I'm trying to add some hatching to my object but in 3D. What is the best way to achieve this?

The only idea I've come up with is to use cutpoly to cut around the hatched area. The shape of the 3D area is an L shape.

If you have any ideas, please let me know!
