Hi All,
I don't know GDL at all; but I have a gsm symbol file that I like and want to use as a window marker...what is a simple procedure to do so?

Please help!!!

The first thing to do is to open the library part, click on the Select Subtype... button on the main library part window, and select General GDL Object > Drawing Symbol > Window-Door Marker to change this object to a door/window marker type. After you save the object it will now appear in the pop up list under Dimension Marker in the door or window dialog box, so it can be assigned to a door or window.

You will then need to use GDL to make the marker parametric like the ones that come with ArchiCAD.

David,
Thank you!!

I am at the part how to change the subtype of the gsm symbol, however the parameters that I need to copy from the archicad original widow marker it is a difficult procedures. I don't know which parameter I need to copy (i.e. marker position, marker rotation, pen colors). I never used the scripting or transferred any of the values before.
What I simply need to have is the features of the original window marker from Archicad copied correctly into my new gsm library part marker.

Help!! Help!!

Thank you again for your help

Sincerely,

DR:

I am guessing that you created this symbol by using the 2D tools in the plan and then saving as a library part. Copying the parameters from another part to your part will not do anything, as the 2D Script for your part will not recognize these parameters. You have 2 options, but both require some knowledge of GDL:

1. Open an existing door/window marker part, then study and modify the 2D Script to get the graphic marker appearance you desire. These will leave the parametric connections in place.
2. Open your marker, add the parameters from an existing marker (by creating new parameters then copying the variables, etc.), and modify your 2D script to make use of the parameters. This will be harder than option 2.

I don't know of a way to create a 2D symbol and automatically make it parametric.

Good luck,

David

David,
Thank you!!!

This all started because I needed an hexagon shaped window symbol instead of the diamond type that comes with Archicad.
I thought it was simple to create a new symbol and make it behave like the standard one. GDL too complicated..
My next question is: Where do I find an hexagon window marker with all the feature of the standard kind???
Thank you for all your help!

David, I already have the hexagon symbol built in...What's your AC version number ?

Dennis,
Thank you...
It looks exactly what I need....

I have AC9. Do you need to save it down from 11 to 9??

In the AC9 Library Special Edition, the Window Marker SE9 has the hexagonal shape option.

David,
Thank you.
The issue is that I have an existing project already and the AC9 SE library is not compatible with my existing project. What is the best way to keep the existing library parts and load the AC9 SE?
The PDF instructions says that you need to restart the file with anew template?? Confusing........
