This is a strange one.
Are there any walls on hidden layers that might be interfering? Does the troublesome wall work if you move it?

no, no hidden layers, and no, when I move it, it doesn't work...but copyng it did work. how totally bizarre.
I'm movin' on.

With wall end tool active, after you get the check-mark with your cursor Shift +click.

Try option/alt clicking on the wall first.
