Are AC13 and Snow Leopard just moody and whiny kids?

Hi everyone,
I've recently upgraded from AC12 to 13 on an iMac running on Snow Leopard. I've been reading about problems with these two softwares since their first release, so I've been careful and installed the latest hotfix. And it worked until yesterday.

Today, completely out of the blue, AC13 won't even start. Instead, I just get the bug report over and over.

This is what I get, can anyone help me translate this into English please?

Enrico,

This is a problem with the fonts that you have installed. This crash report is typical of those that were reported here by many when Snow Leopard arrived.

See the Wiki article for a list of known "problem" fonts. The list is not exclusive, so there may very well be more:

http://www.archicadwiki.com/SnowLeopard

AC 13 with the latest hotfix is not supposed to crash anymore though, even with the bad fonts.

Thank you Karl. I was worried about something like that.

However, I installed AC13 (original version, no hotfix) a few weeks ago on Snow Leopard, and it worked just fine on a solo project that I had originally created in AC12.

Last friday I wanted to set up our little BIM server network (two iMacs, one with Snow Leopard, the other one still with Leopard), so I installed the latest Graphisoft hotfix in order to match the AC13 version on both machines. It worked (surprisingly, I have to say), and we run some tests and all that. We still have to figure out how to manage the libraries, but that's another issue.

Yesterday, out of the blue, AC would not even start!

Do you think the problem might be related to the hotfix?

Thanks!

Enrico

Hi Enrico,

No, I don't think it is related to the hotfix. The lines in your crash report pretty clearly indicate that there is a problem related to a font.

I don't recall if just disabling a font solves the issue. I would try it. Open Font Book and select all fonts except for Arial, Tahoma, Times, Helvetica, Geneva, etc - the base/core fonts. Edit > Disable.

To play it safe (not sure if required), restart the Mac. Then launch 13 and see if it crashes?

After the experiment, go back to Font Book and enable all fonts again.

...or contact your local technical support. 😉

Cheers,
Karl
