Is there a way to get out of the pre-fixed relationships ? IE: how can one make a 4" rise and 30" tread (other tham makeing the individual slabs and stacking them up).

You can either play with the min./max. settings for the treads (i.e. the 2*riser+tread equation), or get ArchiStair.
