Upgrading BIM server to AC15 + 26 workstations

Nick Schat
Participant
We are about to upgrade the BIM server to AC15 and the current hotfixes incl. AC 14. We have to update 26 workstations as well.
When we upgraded from AC13 to AC14 we experienced serious problems with the BIM server. We're naturally super cautious this time.
How does one go about this task without causing too much downtime and avoid working through the night and all weekend?
Is there anyone out there who wants to share their experiences?

Cheers,
Nick

You might be surprised how easy it is if you already have 14 running.
One thing to remember - disable ALL antivirus on your BIM server before installing 15 and hotfixes - or you will have a world of pain.

My biggest issue is libraries, especially if you want to migrate any projects! This is where there are issues - library parts cannot always be embedded (as a library may need to be shared across multiple buildings).
Suggest reading migration article on archicadwiki, but it is not clear.

Hello,

I suggest making a bootable clone of the server to an
external hard disk before the upgrade. It is easily made
with SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner (if OSX used).

It comes handy when things go wrong. We even have
an automated nightly clone to survive a disk failure. Booting
from that is a matter of two minutes.
