I am trying to pull renderings from a file that I am currently working on and the rendering times seem excessively long compared with my previous experience. One previous file was about twice as large as the current on and rendering time was dramatically less, and I was using similar lighting techniques. Does anyone have any suggestions for determining what may be causing the slowdown for this file?

FACTORS TO CONSIDER:
1: File size as saved on drive irrelevant.
2: Number of Polygons important. Use polygon counter to compare rendering difficulty, NOT file size.
3: Overlapping refractive elements. Check your glazing for refraction.
4: Vector complexity: leaves take a long time to cast shadows from.

Dwight,
Thanks for the tips. I'm not familiar with the polygon counter. Is this an add-on?

Krikey (cussword not yet in censor database)!
The polycounter is just one of many "Goodies" making Archicad sing. Look on the HELP menu for a download from Graphisoft.
Why these items must be downloaded separate from the application is a mystery. Something, i think, with having them occasionally set your machine on fire like a bad cellphone battery would. That is a rumor.
All users are advised to investigate the Goodies and download them.

Polycount - what a concept.
My current project has ~ 45,000 polygons, and the one that I mentioned rendered faster had ~ 155,000. I have a hunch that my problem may be with window elements, because turning off exterior walls seems to bring rendering time down, but the glass I'm using isn't refractive. Has anyone encountered problems with windows and rendering speed?

We are currently working a projetct that has been rendering for two days and it is not yet finished! I posted a similar question and I got back a very similar answer, the main nemesis are:( refraction on glass, and polygons). How long did it take to render yours?
